Captain's Log
January 8 2010
New image galleries added for recent Archangel shows. The first is the New Year's Eve show at the Forks and the second is the Olympic Torch fireworks shot from the top of the Johnston Terminal at the Forks.
August 15, 2009 - major update
NEW GALLERY
My online gallery went through a major hosting service move and overhaul and took longer than expected. The script was customized, images keyworded, and bank and ordering delays. But it's all up and running quite nicely now. Along with changing the gallery to a script that's bigger and better a NEW feature has been added - SECURE online ordering by all major credit cards through PayPal. Also NEW is now my entire image catalogue is keyworded and meta tagged for online searching through the gallery search functions AND also through linkable keywords that you will find tagged to each image. Finding specific related images will be much easier now. The Gallery can be accessed by the links on the left.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS MB SUMMER GAMES 2009
Also added to the gallery is another volunteer session for Special Olympics MB Summer Games 2009 shot in July. This year was a little different than previous years. Venues were spread across the city and I took Track & Field at the U of M track which I shot along with my friend Ray B. Also new to the Special Olympic gallery section (something I couldn't offer with my last gallery layout) is print ordering where $1 from every SOM print sold will be donated back to Special Olympics Mb. Athletes family now can order prints direct. - view the Summer Games 2009 gallery

ICARUS PHOTOGRAFIX PHOTOGRAPHY FORUM
If you've been here before you'll likely have noticed the new link up top to the Icarus Photography Forum which I setup earlier this year. It had been running as a private by-invite local forum after Ten Thousand Frames shut down so there would be a good place for some photgrapher friends to stay in touch. Word got out and it's now far larger than expected with some very excellent members hanging out, sharing info/photos and having fun. We intended it to be local but have attracted members from all over Manitoba, Ontario, Alaska and even one person from Netherlands - and covering a wide range of skills, styles, subjects from published award winning photographers all the way to beginners just looking to learn. Unlike some forums, our goal is to have fun, welcome new members, and also to encourage better photo skills through comments and critiques in a relaxing friendly, mostly uncensored atmosphere. If you're a photographer of any skill level that's serious enough about participating then the door is open. Membership is free. New users are required to register through email validation. FALCON LAKE SUMMER MIDWAY FIREWORKS
Another annual fireworks show out at Falcon Lake on the beach put on by Archangel Fireworks. Oh I should say now 3 time world fireworks champions since winning their latest competition in Quebec recently. - view the Falcon show
July 17, 2009
My Icarus Photografix site has been moved to a new hosting company. In the meantime my photo gallery is off-line as it's being upgraded to bigger and better gallery software complete with online ordering. The mini print gallery on this site is still active however.

Well it's warming up and drying out which means more shutter clicks soon and fighting off the mosquitos. Anyway, about time for a fresh site update.
Shot a group session in April for rock band One in Spirit for their updated promo material. You can visit their website at www.oneinspirit.ca.

More editing completed from the summer and fall backlog along with the Sept photos from Jasper at the Focus on the Rockies photo workshop and New Years fireworks from the Forks.
The New Years fireworks was the first time out with the new camera and testing out the 5D MKII video mode in bitter cold on only one battery. The gallery images are some stills I shot before putting the video to the test.

To boldly go where... well no not really. It just feels like I traveled a few light years on the impulse engines. 50 000kms in about 6 months - Cuba, Australia, Jasper (drove), Thompson (drove), Kenora/Sioux Narrows and Sask not to mention the few usual journeys. I've finally managed to sit down and figure out the new site layout and juggle how to manage 2 sites after a busy spring & summer. From now on this site (alchemix.com) will be used as my shoot/gallery listing & blog along with general news of what I'm up to. My business site, Icarus Photografix (icarusphotografix.com) will be host to my image galleries because of better server software and naturally everything photo service related.

A bird with an attitude because he didn't know which colour to wear to the photo session and just decided to wear it all. view this image larger.
Australia Trip - Online
It took forever to go through all the shots from the 2 weeks in Australia (Canberra & Sydney) but the shots are finally online. For the curious (because everyone always asks) I shot 9853 photos and that's why it took so damn long to edit them. End tally is 753 keepers. Half of them bird shots. Why shoot that dumb Opera place when they have tons of freaky looking birds.
Grand Marais July Long Weekend - ONLINE
Currently working on those ones. Got some awesome shots of a Blue Heron that was trying to play a nasty game of Mess With the Photographer all weekend. Got him on the last day.
Thompson Trip - ONLINE
One week in Thompson, MB back in August 2008
Jasper Focus on the Rockies Photo Workshop - Online
Was the prize I recieved for Best of Show at the 2008 MPAX Photo Expo. It was a pretty long (drove) but fun trip. The instructors were all great.
Special Olympics Car Rally 2008 - Online
Shot the rally again this year. Had a lot of fun as usual and got allot of pretty nice shots. Was a lot easier this year since they implemented a single route rather than that double route they had last year. This year the food challenge was Balut. That made for some quality photos of people trying not to puke.
